Who’s the person behind these films?
That’ll be me, Tim Downie. I'm a digital storyteller based in Melbourne with a passion for family films, and I've been privileged to be able to collaborate with some of the nation's best video production creatives for over two decades.
My filmmaking journey began in 2001 when I started shooting and producing for Seven News. Since then, I’ve worked with all the major television stations on high-profile projects across the country and beyond, from capturing the action at the Australian Tennis Open, National Cricket tours in India, and the AFL to major documentaries, travel, and lifestyle shows and familiar programs like The Project.
The most important thing to know about me is that I get it. I'm passionate about preserving family history in today's digital age, but I know that not everybody is a natural in front of the camera. Our team at Your Legacy Films has a fun, friendly attitude that will put you right at ease and help you tell your story in your own voice in a way that will inspire future generations.
My mantra? Keep it simple, make it impactful. Decades of experience have taught me that the best stories are told clearly and from the heart.
I first became interested in this unique style of family storytelling due to a missed opportunity to record the stories of my mother and my grandparents. My mission is rooted in the belief that every family has a story worth telling—a story worth preserving for generations.
As your cinematographer, I connect the dots between past and present, telling your family story in just the right way, inspiring your family of the future, and preserving your legacy in a film that will be cherished for generations to come.
I can't wait to hear you tell your story.
